Southwest Info

The Southwest primarily consists of Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah, while some would also consider parts of Texas, California, and Colorado. Truck drivers in the Southwest help support several industries, including mining, agriculture, and the service industries.

New Mexico
New Mexico, like other states in the region, helps provide the nation with important minerals. Uranium, copper, and zinc are all mined in New Mexico, and petroleum, natural gas, sheep, and lumber are important industries in the state. New Mexico is also becoming well-known for its research facilities.

Nevada
A strong service industry is needed to make the gaming, resort, and tourism industries what they are in Nevada. Hotels, casinos, and restaurants need a constant supply of food, linens, and other consumer commodities. Agriculturally, the state of Nevada is well-known for raising cattle, potatoes, and grain.

Arizona
Like most states in the southwest that have abundant yet rural land, cattle ranching is an important agricultural industry in Arizona. Another primary industry in the state is mining, especially copper. Arizona also relies heavily upon the manufacturing industry.

Utah
Large amounts of copper, lead, silver, and other natural resources make mining an important industry in some parts of Utah. Cattle ranching is one of the top agricultural industries within Utah and because of its central location in the region, many corporations use the state as a distribution center, creating many southwest trucking jobs.

Important interstates in the region include I-15, I-25, I-40, and I-10.  These interstates help connect major cities with the region, which are often separated by hundreds of miles of desert. Some of the more populous cities in the region include: Phoenix, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, El Paso, Albuquerque, Pueblo, Tucson, Reno, and St. George. The trucking industry helps these areas stay economically connected, and transports the region's natural and agricultural resources throughout the United States.
